Painting

Painting functions as both observation and exploration within Jannah Atkins’ studio practice. Through shifting approaches that include landscape, abstraction, mixed media, and atmospheric studies, the work investigates relationships between color, surface, ecology, and perception.

Layering, gesture, and material experimentation allow each painting to evolve through process—building surfaces that hold traces of movement, memory, weather, and transformation. Rooted in direct engagement with natural environments, these works respond to the changing conditions of place, light, and living systems.

The paintings move between representation and abstraction, balancing structure with intuition while reflecting an ongoing dialogue between observation, material, and experience.
